The word “kairos” is a Greek word used to describe an opportune moment.
The Sophists in ancient Greece had two conceptions of time: kronos and kairos. Kronos is chronological time--the ticking of a clock. Kairos is qualitative time--the idea that some ticks of the clock may be different than all others. These unique ticks happen when the stars align, if only briefly, to make transformative change possible.
The Kairos Project believes that a unique moment of opportunity exists in the Middle East to create a lasting peace. A new consensus is emerging among key players in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that this moment can be seized through sustained and robust U.S. engagement. The Kairos Project seeks to contribute to this peace by engaging actors from both the Middle East and the United States.
The Kairos Project is a Washington, DC-based 501(c)(3) that educates America’s faith communities on the causes of and solutions to the conflict in the Holy Land.
